What is ASAP-Bio

One partnership, two outcomes

ASAP-Bio strengthens long-term collaboration between Aarhus University and four East African universities, addressing a shared challenge: how to make livestock systems more productive, sustainable, and biodiversity-friendly.

Outcome 1 · Partnership

Knowledge & collaborative learning

Jointly developed MSc course modules, staff exchanges and training, a shared open-access knowledge platform, and equitable governance embedded in every partner institution.

Outcome 2 · Scholarships

People & skills

Full-degree MSc scholarships, shorter research stays, and annual summer schools that bring East African and Danish students together around real ISAPS problems.

Focus areas

Five partnership & teaching themes

Multi-omics

Genomics, breeding, transcriptomics, microbiomics and bioinformatics for livestock.

Digitalization and phenomics

Precision livestock farming, sensors, AI and machine learning.

Nutrition and feed systems

Sustainable, climate-smart feeding strategies and feed efficiency.

One Health

Animal, human and environmental health, led with JKUAT.

Biodiversity and Breeding programs

Biodiversity, breeding programmes, resilient production systems.

Aarhus University (Denmark) is the contracting institution, working with three primary partners and one secondary partner across Ethiopia, Uganda and Kenya.
